Keep the kids entertained in Chelan’s winter wonderland
It’s no mystery that the Lake Chelan Valley is a wonderland for adults with its endless choices for wine tasting. But did you know there are a wealth of options for kiddos as well? Here are the top activities to keep your kids entertained outside of the summer season.
Echo Valley
Fun for the kids isn’t limited to just summer. During the winter months, the Echo Valley Ski & Tubing area opens for tubing, skiing, and snowboarding. The trails above the tubing hill also present a great opportunity for Nordic skiing, with many beginner trails offered. Echo Valley is located just 10 miles from Chelan’s city center, in between Chelan and Manson..
Bowling at Chelan Lanes
Bowling is a classic pastime and a perfect activity when you need relief from inclement weather. Chelan Lanes is located in downtown Chelan and features weekly Cosmic Bowling with black lights and music as well as “Throwback Thursdays” in the non-summer months. The attached restaurant has great food and drink options for kids and adults alike.
Kid-Friendly Shopping
Wander the boutiques of Chelan’s historic downtown and you’re sure to find options suited to all ages. Riverwalk Books is a Chelan institution and has a kids section that takes up the entirety of their upper floor. The relatively new Chelan Toys & Sweets is a must-stop with its expansive inventory of toys, games, and candy. And the Ice Cream Parlor at The Landing will complete your family movie night with their new offering of pints to-go in the off season.
Seasonal Festivities
With an influx of families to the area, the options for off-season activities have increased considerably. During the holiday season, enjoy caroling, Santa visits, fireworks, and sledding hills at participating wineries as part of the Small Town Holidays events. Small Town Holidays runs November 25th through January 1st and includes everything from wreath making classes to cookie decorating to Santa brunches. Check out the full list of activities.
The fun isn’t reserved for just the holiday season either – Winterfest has quickly made a name for itself as one of Lake Chelan’s most anticipated events. Taking place January 13th – 22nd, the 2023 Winterfest includes ice sculptures, fireworks shows, live music, and sledding all across the valley. It’s a surefire way to keep the kids entertained while soaking in the beauty of Chelan’s winter wonderland.
