Stocking Your Second Home: The Necessities

Dreaming of turning your home into a divine retreat? Stock it with necessities and treasures that will beautify your place and make it your own. Knowing you’ll be arriving to what you need will make settling into your vacation even easier. Here are some tips to get you started!

For the Pantry

Be ready to whip up some excellent meals by stocking your pantry with non-perishable items and essentials. That way, all you need to worry about is picking up some fresh ingredients to bring your recipes together. Olive oil, spices, crackers, pasta, gourmet olives, jarred sauce, pancake mix and maple syrup, etc. We recommend also stocking some marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate so you’re ready for fireside s’mores.

On Ice

Load up that freezer with frozen fruits and vegetables. Today’s options are almost as good as fresh, keep much longer, are a great option for quick and easy dinners, and frozen fruits can be used for smoothies or easily added to cocktails for some extra punch! We like to keep a few sweet treats in there as well for those late-night ice cream cravings.

For the Bar

Tuck away a few bottles of your favorite Chelan Valley wines so you’ll be ready to share over a nice dinner with family and friends, or enjoy a glass in the afternoon sun. If wine’s not your thing, assemble a variety of your favorite liquors along with your favorite festive glassware and accessories. Chelan also has several local breweries so you can stock the fridge with craft beers and ciders. When you arrive for vacation, you’ll be delighted that “Past You” was thinking ahead.

For the Kitchen

Stock your second home with an assortment of dishware, utensils, cookware and your “can’t live without” small appliances (we’re talking about your blender, mixer, slow cooker and of course, a coffee maker.) Don’t forget to include your favorite BBQ tools and some non-breakable plates and drinkware for your time at the pool. We love visiting The Culinary Apple, a well-stocked kitchen shop in downtown Chelan for the best cocktail glassware, serving dishes, kitchen tools and more!

Linens

Keep plenty of linens and bath towels on hand so you don’t have to do endless amounts of laundry while you’re here. You’re on vacation after all. Plan to store enough towels (beach and bath!) and bedsheets to accommodate everyone.

For the Bath

Set up your bathrooms with sunscreen, extra toothbrushes, hairdryer, cleaning products, shampoo, and anything else you like to have on hand. It’ll make your life easier knowing your second home is stocked with all the items you might need during your stay.

Use these tips to create an inviting space where you can unwind and stress less about packing everything up, knowing the necessities are already waiting for you when you arrive. With a stocked vacation home, you can show up, relax, and enjoy your time away from the pressures of your everyday life. See you at the lake!
